Margaret Barton-Burke is a leader and scholar in oncology nursing with a track record of academic contributions including 57+ peer-reviewed articles, 20 book chapters, and 37 books. Her expertise is in symptom management and research capacity building. As Director of Nursing Research at Memorial Sloan Kettering, a world premier cancer center, she supports and mentors nursing professionals to pursue and publish scholarly work and leads a Nursing Research Fellowship. A Fulbright Scholar in Ireland, she will compare and contrast nursing research capacity in cancer centers in Ireland and USA. She will work at Dublin City University and the National University of Ireland Galway conducting a mixed-methods study to determine nurses’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding research, and attempt to understand barriers preventing nurses from participating in research; while attempting to building an Ireland-directed Nursing Research Fellowship. This study demonstrates nurses’ knowledge related to research and developes resources and education.
