Dr. Lakes is a full professor of psychiatry and neuroscience at the School of Medicine, University of California, Riverside. Passionate about global child health, Dr. Lakes is collaborating on multiple international projects focused on child and adolescent wellbeing. Dr. Lakes has received many awards over the course of her career, including four awards from the National Institutes of Health for health disparities research; the Outstanding Recent Graduate Award from the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin, Madison; the Aspen Brain Forum Young Investigator Prize; and a research fellowship from the University of Oxford. In 2023, Dr. Lakes received a Fulbright Global Scholar Award that will help facilitate collaborative research with scientists in Ireland and South Africa. Dr. Lakes’ Fulbright research is focused on the facilitators of and constraints to child mental health and neurodevelopment at multiple levels – individual, interpersonal, sociocultural, and environmental – particularly among children in under-resourced communities.
