David Monahan is a PhD student at the National University of Ireland Galway. He received his BSc in Biomedical Science double majoring in Cellular Pathology and Clinical Biochemistry from Dublin Institute of Technology in 2016. He then worked as a Medical Scientist before starting his PhD in February 2017. His research focuses on the development of minimally invasive delivery strategies incorporating medical devices, biomaterials, and drugs to treat heart disease. Through the Fulbright programme David will visit the Therapeutic Technology, Design, & Development lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). While at MIT he will develop a smart medical device containing a responsive biomaterial that will release drugs in response to heart damage and aims to help patients suffering from heart disease as a result of cancer therapy
