Sunset Rock Dance - Mariah Maloney

Sunset Rock Dance, Cliffs of Kilkee, County Clare, Ireland.

Submitted by Mariah Maloney

"Shortly after arriving in Ireland, I had made my way to the Cliffs of Kilkee, off the west coast of County Clare, Ireland. On a late August evening, my bare feet felt the warmth of the day radiating from the lichen-etched slate as day turned to night. I was dancing in response to the ocean, wind, and land;  I felt like I was flying with the birds and dancing on the rays of light as the waves crashed below. The air seemed to move my limbs.  At this moment, the camera captured me just as I was resting the sole of my foot below the sunset."

Meditating in the sunset at the Horseshoe Bend Arizona desert close to Page

Submitted by Pierpaolo Dondio

“The photo was taken in April at the horseshoe bend, in the Arizona desert between the town of Page and the Navajo Nation territory. Although it is a popular place for tourist, that day it was really quiet. The sunset in the desert is a unique experience. The clean air makes all the colours more vivid and clear, and the rocks become coloured with all the shades of orange and red. I took a few minutes on my own to enjoy the moment. The photographer is Francesco Dondio, my son."

Aran Islands

Submitted by S.J. DeMattio

Last April some friends and I organized a writing retreat on Inishmaan, the middle of the three main Aran Islands in Galway Bay, off the west coast of Ireland. Charlotte, Ellen, and Parker are all PhD candidates I met in the School of English at Trinity College Dublin. Paula, the island nurse, befriended our group on the first night of our stay and ended up serving as both a guide and cultural ambassador during the duration of our trip, teaching us the many beautiful nuances of island life. This photo was taken by a kind islander during a driving tour of the island’s coast.”
