Awardees join a distinguished international network of Fulbright alumni who have achieved success in government, science, the arts, business, philanthropy, education, and athletics.
New Award: Fulbright-Heritage Council Professional Award
This year we announce a new Fulbright-Heritage Council Professional Award that offers the opportunity for a scholar or professional to research or lecture at a U.S. higher education institution or organisation in the cultural heritage sector.
Fulbright Awards
The Fulbright Awards provide academic and career opportunities for applicants to study, research, or teach with experts at a U.S. institution or organisation.
The mission of the Fulbright Commission is to strengthen Irish and American partnership, build long-term academic and professional connections, inspire minds, and create a global culture of understanding and solidarity by selecting the best candidates from the island of Ireland to study, research, or teach at top U.S. institutions. Global Fulbright alumni include 62 Nobel Prize recipients, 89 Pulitzer Prize winners, and 41 recipients have served as a head of state or in government.
Fulbright places an emphasis on cultural engagement, collaboration, long-term academic and professional connections, and strong alumni participation. Whilst the awards are open to all disciplines, the Fulbright Commission in Ireland partners with local and international agencies to offer additional awards in the areas of Health, Social Justice, Culture and Heritage, Geoscience, Agri-food, Environmental Protection, Business and Innovation, Law, Cybersecurity, and the Irish language.

Chair of the Fulbright Commission Ireland Board, Professor Paul Donnelly, said…
“As we launch the Fulbright Irish Awards today, I encourage Irish students, scholars and professionals who are interested in fostering mutual understanding, advancing knowledge and improving lives to apply for these awards. While Fulbright is elite, it is not elitist — it is a highly selective fellowship program that seeks to represent the best of Ireland in all its diversity. The legacy of the Fulbright Program is one of outstanding, meticulous, innovative and high-quality research and teaching in service to the public good. The program promotes cross-cultural collaboration, building bridges, empathy and understanding that is vital to addressing current complex global challenges. I strongly urge those who wish to make a difference in their field to consider applying.”
Executive Director of the Fulbright Commission in Ireland, Dr Dara FitzGerald, said…
“The Fulbright Irish Awards focus on advancing and enriching academic and professional career opportunities through educational and cultural exchanges. Each year, Fulbrighters from all disciplines and backgrounds make meaningful professional and personal connections in the U.S. and, on returning to Ireland, share their expertise and experiences. The impact of these awards on the lives of the awardees, their families and wider communities is overwhelmingly positive. We are excited to showcase a new Fulbright-Heritage Council Professional Award this year. The award offers the unique opportunity to study or research in the cultural heritage sector. I encourage anyone who is eager to advance their academic or professional career, experience the U.S. in a wholly new way, and who embodies the passion, vision and ethos of the Fulbright Program, to apply for a Fulbright award.”
The U.S. Ambassador to Ireland, Claire Cronin, said...
“The Fulbright Program is the United States government’s flagship international educational and cultural exchange program and the largest of its kind in the United States. The program builds mutual understanding across communities and creates lasting connections between the people of the United States and other nations. Over 2,500 people have participated in Fulbright educational and cultural exchanges between Ireland and the United States to date, which continues to strengthen the special bond between our two nations.”
Tánaiste, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence, Micheál Martin T.D., said...
“Over the past 67 years, the Fulbright Program has enabled students and scholars to pursue educational and cultural exchanges between Ireland and the United States. Fulbrighters embark on transformative cultural and educational journeys and contribute to finding solutions to important international problems. The program plays a vital role in maintaining the close relationship that the United States and Ireland enjoy. The Government of Ireland is proud to support this excellent program, and I look forward to seeing the continued collaboration and connections that develop as a result of these awards.”
