U.S. Scholar 2021-22 applications hit a 20-year record high
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program attracted 2,900 applications globally, including increases for all six regions.
The figure represents the highest number of applications submitted by the deadline in more than two decades.
“The increase in applications comes in spite of the challenges and uncertainty surrounding global travel. It’s is an encouraging sign for the Fulbright Program internationally,” Executive Director of the Fulbright Commission in Ireland, Dr Dara FitzGerald said.
“Fulbright continuously creates many thousands of deep personal connections in a complex and changing world. Our programs continue to focus on diversity, inclusion and equity, enriching Awardees’ educations and life experiences, advancing their careers and supporting them to make meaningful contributions in the U.S. and at home.” he added
“Upon returning to Ireland, they share their stories and join hundreds of thousands of international alumni serving as leaders across the globe. Fulbright programs are wholly supported by Irish an U.S. Governments. Additional support from Irish agencies and higher education institutions has allowed for significant increase in award funding and diversity.”
