For Immediate Release

Thursday, 12th January 2017, Undergraduate students are invited to apply for the Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSIs) for European Student Leaders in Social Entrepreneurship. The successful candidate will be hosted by the University of Tennessee – Chattanooga in June-July 2017, and will have the opportunity to examine the development, history, challenges and successes of U.S. social enterprises.

The grants includes airfare, tuition and fees, lodging and meals at the host university, a daily incidentals allowance, visa sponsorship, and a range of academic and cultural programming.

SUSIs are intensive, short-term, academic programs that provide students with a deeper understanding of the U.S, while enhancing their leadership skills. This SUSIs in Social Entrepreneurship will give participants an opportunity to learn about the development, history, challenges, and successes of U.S. social enterprises and gain a foundation in how to employ entrepreneurial skills to address social issues.

These Institutes will take place over 5 weeks in Summer 2017 and will consist of seminar discussions, readings, group presentations and lectures addressing topics such as business ethics, negotiations, emerging markets and risk analysis, microfinance, corporate social responsibility, strategic business planning and innovation, and women and minorities in entrepreneurship.

Coursework will be complemented by educational travel, site visits, leadership activities, and volunteer opportunities within the local community. An educational tour will take participants to another area of the U.S. where they will meet with local, state, private, and not-for-profit organizations working in the field. The Institute will conclude with a visit to Washington, D.C.

Applicants are expected to be highly motivated undergraduate students from colleges, universities, and other institutions of higher education. Students must be between 18 and 25 years of age and have at least 1 semester left of their undergraduate studies following the SUSI Program.

The Deadline for applications is 5pm on February 6th 2017. Please see the Fulbright website for further information on eligibility and application instructions:
