November 29th, 2012: FLTAs Participate in Irish Immersion Weekend Current Irish FLTAs, Nóirín Ní Laighin and Gearóid Ó Duinn, Visit Kansas City on Irish Immersion Weekend
The Kansas City Irish Center in Kansas City, Missouri, hosted an Irish language Immersion Weekend during early November. Two Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTAs) participated in the class.
Gearóid and Nóirín are both Irish language teaching assistants at univerisities in the U.S. Nóirín is currently at the University of Notre Dame, while Gearóid is at Villanova University.

The Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistantship (FLTA) program offers FLTAs and US students the unique opportunity to learn about each others’ cultures and to build mutual understanding between the U.S. and Ireland. As part of the FLTA program, the Fulbrighters participate in various cultural programs, such as the Immersion Weekend at the Kansas City Irish Center.
Speaking about the weekend, Nóirín stated it was “great to be working with so many eager, enthusiastic people in a very proud-to-be-Irish center.” The Kansas City Irish Centre is dedicated to being a hub of Irish activities, music, and educational programs, and Fulbright is delighted to have been part of their Immersion Weekend.
